iOS 6 and iPhone 5

I'm currently finishing up a project for another app. However once that is finished, I'll be updating Classic Cars Pro and Scorecard Pro for iOS 6 and iPhone 5. Maybe even a new feature or two will get added in, you'll just have to wait and see.

Scorecard Pro Golf

The latest version of Scorecard Pro has been released and is now available on the Apple App Store. Its got a lot of cool things going on. First, the golf and disc golf courses has been expanded to accommodate up to 36 holes and you can create a course with a custom amount of holes up to 36. So for example, 24 hole courses for disc golf are fairly common. Second, you can add a new course directly from the Add Game menu. Third, there is a new keyboard to make entering scores faster and easier. Lastly, when setting up players for a game, the "Add Player" button will flash if you don't have enough players and you no longer have to click "Edit" to edit the game details or add a players. Updates to the game details are saved automatically.

UPDATE: For existing users, a new version has been released (v2.13) which fixes the crashing issue from the major v2.12 update. For most of you, you will need to go to the app store and update Scorecard Pro to v2.12 then go back to the app store and update again to v2.13. Just leave me a comment if you have any questions.

So what's new with you? Here's what's new with me.

It's been while since my last post and that's because I don't really have any updates to report. There have just been several small minor, not even worth blogging about updates.

Further down the line there will be a decent sized update for Scorecard Pro. It's gonna add more holes to golf for courses that are longer that 18 holes. I'm planning on extending it to 36 holes and an option to create a course with a custom amount of holes. Also, a new keyboard will be implemented (a number pad with a negative sign). In addition, I'm gonna try and come up with a better way of adding players to a game. I've been getting complaints that it is confusing and/or not obvious.

In other news, I'll be attending WWDC 2012. It's Apples developer conference where I will be learning all the latest tips and tricks to create an awesome app and help improve app performance. I'm super excited for this conference. It's gonna be a new experience where I'll have the opportunity to learn from the people who wrote the software themselves. This gives me the chance to bring you awesome new features in my apps.

Lastly, I've been working under the company APPerfection LLC with a couple of my friends and we've come up with and recently released a new iOS and Android app called BlueBox - File Transfer. BlueBox - File Transfer on iOS is an awesome app that allows you to transfer photos, videos, and contacts from one Apple device to another Apple device using bluetooth technology. It's fast, reliable, safe, and FREE. Check it out now on the Apple App Store for more details. BlueBox on Android is far more advanced than the iOS version. What it does is automatically sync all your data between your android devices, again using bluetooth technology. It does this in the background without you having to do anything. It's super simple to use, it's a powerful app, and you won't find anything else like it on the Android market place. For more info on BlueBox - File Transfer or APPerfection in general, check us out at www.apperfection.com or follow us on twitter at @APPerfection

Car Suggestions

I must say, this suggestion system is working out very well. I'm trying to update the list regularly to keep up on all the suggestions. I'm updating the list about once a week if you were curious.

For the most part, people seem to be submitting the full screen images which is great. However, I've noticed a problem with submitting suggestions on the iPad. Since Google Images doesn't allow full screen for tablets (as of this writing) it's not submitting the right data so I have no idea which image was submitted unlike the iPhone submissions. I should have an update out to fix the iPad submissions soon. I just have to figure out how to fix it first.

Lastly as note not related to suggestions, if you have ANY problems with ANY of my apps, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me know. I'm happy to help in any way that I can, I'm quick to respond, and I'd like to keep my customers happy. And as always, please let me know if you have ANY Comments, Questions, or Suggestions. Email me at jjring31@gmail.com, just leave a comment any where on this blog, or look me up on Twitter at @ringapps.

UPDATE: Good news and bad news. Good news, I fixed the iPad suggestion problem. Bad news, the fix is to use Bing image search. Until Google offers a full size image view for tablets, Bing will have to work. Just remember, this is only for searching for images on the iPad. All other searches still use Google. Also, the next update will use Google Analytics to anonymously track usage data. This will simply let me know what cars people are looking at the most and help in the priority that pictures are added to the app. NO PERSONAL DATA WILL BE TRACKED!

Classic Car Update v x.5

I just submitted the new update to Apple tonight so it will hopefully be available by the end of the week or early next week.

First, the new update will fix issues people were having trying to get photos from the server.

Next, this is a major update in the way that pictures are displayed to you. To start, an internet connection *WILL* be *REQUIRED* to view any photos. Photos will NO longer be downloaded to your device and stored for offline usage. However if you want to save an image to your camera roll, just hold your finger down on the photo and a popup will ask you if you want to save it to your camera roll.

This new method of not downloading pictures to the device makes it a lot easier to give you access to more photos. So expect to see a lot more photos available.

Also, if a photo is available, it will be automatically displayed. If a photo is not available, it gives you the option to search the internet for the photo of the car. And if you find a good photo of it, you can suggest it so that I will look it over and approve it. That way somebody else won't have to look on the internet for the same photo, the photo you suggest would just show up.

Lastly, you can now quickly and easily search the internet for more details about a car simply by scrolling down to the bottom of the details table and click the link at the bottom to search for more details.

If you have any comments, questions, or suggestions, please don't hesitate to email me at jjring31@gmail.com or simply post a comment somewhere on this blog. Also, I would greatly appreciate it if you would take a minute out of your day to rate or review my app.
Thanks.

Scorecard Pro v2.9

This scorecard update was a quick and simple fix for users who experienced crashes when attempting to use the Farkle scorecard. The update was approved yesterday and is now available for update through the app store.

Scorecard Pro v2.8

This is just a small update for the Hand and Foot scorecard. It adds a customizable quick reference/cheat sheet for remembering point values for certain cards or for the end of the round. You can set the custom point values for Hand and Foot in 'Specific Game Settings' which can be found in the 'Settings' tab.

I already have another update on the way which will fix a crashing issue on the Farkle scorecard. Farkle will crash for any user not running iOS 5. This next update, v2.9, will fix that problem. Should be available in about a week or so.

The Plan

So here's whats up. I've put a lot of work into Classic Cars Pro and I've still been getting bad reviews and emails complaining it's a crap app.

So here's the plan,
-Make an internet connection required to view any pictures (pictures will not be downloaded to device anymore)
-Display 'No picture available' icon when no picture is available
-Offer google image search for the missing pictures (will be done without leaving the app)
-Offer google search to get more details on a car (will be done without leaving the app)
-Allow user to save available pictures to the camera role

I'm hoping these changes will bring up the quality of the app by making it clearer on how to see pictures and see and know when pictures are available.

If you have any suggestions for this app, please let me know now while I'm making updates for it. Any and all suggestions are welcome. Post a comment on this blog entry or email me at jjring31@gmail.com.

Scorecard Pro V2.7

This blog entry is mostly just to let you know of everything new in version 2.7 that just came out.

Spades:
There is a new section in the 'Settings' tab for specific game settings. This section was created for the Spades scorecard but will eventually contain other settings for other games in the future. So right now, you can go here to change some common settings for spades. Such as setting the sandbags on or off, changing the number of sandbags, setting low bid on or off, and setting blind low on or off.

Some new games have been added including 'Hand and Foot', more variations of 'Dominos', 'Disc Golf', and 'Golf'.

Hand and Foot
To score for 'Hand and Foot', you enter the total number of points for each section in the corresponding white box for the corresponding team. This scorecard is pretty simple and there is nothing complex behind it. The score is simply calculated by add the numbers in the top 6 boxes and subtracting whatever is in the 7th box.

Dominos:
The 'Dominos' scorecard has now changed to include 'Dominos - 9', 'Dominos - 12', and 'Dominos - 15'. And it has been fixed to include the correct number of hands.

Golf/Disc Golf
Golf and Disc Golf have now been added. This really added a lot to the app. Not only does it have its own unique scorecard, but there is also a new section in the 'Settings' tab to setup golf courses. This will allow you to setup a golf or disc golf course ONCE and reuse it for MULTIPLE games. This way the same course does not have to be setup again for each game. To setup a golf course, go to the 'Settings' tab and click 'Golf Course Setup'. Here you can add a new course by clicking the '+' button in the upper right or edit an existing course by selecting it. When adding a new course, enter in the course name and select whether it has 9 or 18 holes and whether it is going to be a golf or disc golf course. Then on the bottom of the screen, there are 4 On/Off switches for the yardages you want to setup. Turn them on or off based on which yardages your golf or disc golf course uses. If you don't want to use any yardages, then just turn them all off. Then click 'Next' in the upper right to start entering in the data for each hole. Enter in the par and yardages in the corresponding white boxes. When you get to the last hole, click 'Done' and your new course will be saved.

When creating a new golf or disc golf game, you will be prompted to select from a list of courses that can be used for the game you are trying to setup. So if you are trying to start a new 9 hole game of Disc Golf, only the courses you setup that are set to '9 Holes' and 'Disc Golf' will be displayed in the list. When scoring in golf, enter the score for each person in the corresponding white box and then enter the hole number in the corresponding white box and click 'Submit'. Leaving a score blank for a player will NOT erase their score for that hole. To erase a score for a player, enter a "0" in the white box next to the corresponding player and enter the hole number that you wish to erase their score for, then click 'Submit'.

How To Copy Games
There is a new feature at the bottom of the game detail page (where you setup the players for a game) that allows you to copy a game. When you click this, a new game is created with the same title and the words 'Copy'(so if a game was called 'Test Game', the copied game title would be called 'Test Game Copy'), the same game type, same location, same player names in the same order, and with the scores reset to 0. (the game you are copying will keep the same scores).

Tally
Another new feature is the 'Tally'. It's a small helpful feature that will allow you to see a breakdown of the score. Not all scorecards have this because it doesn't make sense for them all to have it. But Spades for example is one that has it. There will be a button some where on the screen that says 'Tally'. So using Spades as an example, if team 1 gets 40 points the first time and 120 points the next time, while team 2 get 50 points the first time and -10 points the next time, the 'Tally' screen will look like this:
Team 1 Team 2

    40 50
   120 -10
------ ------
   160 40
Then lets say team 1 get -30 points and team 2 gets 20 points, the 'Tally' screen will now look like this:
Team 1 Team 2

    40 50
   120 -10
------ ------
   160 40
   -30 20
------ ------
   130 60

Well...that about covers everything new in version 2.7 of Scorecard Pro. If I wasn't clear about something, don't understand something, or are stuck, as always, send you Comments,Questions, or Suggestions to jjring31@gmail.com. I would greatly appreciate it if you would take the couple minutes it takes to write a review and rate this app in the App Store. I put A LOT of time and effort into this update and it would really mean a lot to me if you did that.
Thanks.
